49ers Star Calls Out NFLPA for Lying

The ongoing feud between the 49ers and one of their star players is no longer just about a contract. After publicly demanding an exit from San Francisco, he’s now turned on the NFLPA, claiming the very union meant to protect players failed him when he needed it most.

The player’s list of grievances is growing, with some NFLPA members now joining the 49ers in his crosshairs.

NFL free agency exists in its current form largely because of Reggie White. In the early 1990s, the All-Pro player led a landmark antitrust case against the NFL that challenged the league’s player movement rules. The outcome led to the 1993 CBA, which gave players more control over where they could continue their NFL careers.

White then became the first superstar to prove how powerful the new system could be. He left the Philadelphia Eagles to sign with the Green Bay Packers on a four-year contract worth millions. The move transformed Green Bay into one of the NFL’s top free-agent destinations.
