One specific requirement still stands between Seattle and its next chapter under new leadership.

In 1972, the NFL witnessed one of its most unusual ownership moves when Colts owner Carroll Rosenbloom gave up control of the franchise to take over the Rams from Robert Irsay. Unhappy in Baltimore, he believed Southern California was where he wanted to run his team.

But the swap went far beyond the front office. Baltimore’s coaches, roster, uniforms, and assets became the Rams’, while Los Angeles inherited the Colts’ entire football operation. The two organizations essentially exchanged identities overnight, with no players changing teams individually.
