Another day of training camps is officially in the books! Here are our key takeaways from the recent sessions:

  • Bills QB Josh Allen highlighted the Highmark Stadium practice by hitting Khalil Shakir for a twisting touchdown during a two-minute drill.

  • Dolphins signal-caller Malik Willis called a players-only meeting before practice to demand greater accountability and pride from the attack.

  • Deshaun Watson took all first-team snaps for the Browns, bypassing the scheduled rotation with rookie Shedeur Sanders.

  • Indianapolis was down its top two receivers as Josh Downs sat out with a groin injury alongside Alec Pierce, who is recovering from ankle surgery.

  • Working with the Raiders first team after Kirk Cousins was benched for disciplinary reasons, rookie Fernando Mendoza delivered a mixed performance marked by accuracy and snap-handling issues.

While player fights grab the camp headlines, head coaches occasionally lose their cool in far more destructive ways. During the 2021 preseason, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer walked up to his kicker, Josh Lambo, during a warm-up drill and physically kicked him, barking, “Hey dips---, make your f---ing kicks!”

When Lambo pushed back on the abuse, Meyer doubled down, declaring, “I'm the head ball coach, I'll kick you whenever the f*** I want.” 

Though he survived that specific afternoon, the toxic culture and public outrage surrounding the altercation ultimately led to his firing for cause just 13 games into a disastrous tenure.
