BREAKING: Jets Owner Invests in Another Team

Hey Folks,

Woody Johnson is making a move that has nothing to do with the draft, the quarterback room, or MetLife Stadium. After the NFL and the Premier League, Johnson is entering a sport that is growing fast in the United States, pairing with a Canadian billionaire to expand its reach. Although the size of the deal has been kept quiet, the target is clear: more fans, more business, and a bigger footprint.

After the New York Jets and Crystal Palace, Johnson checks off another sport from his list.

When Woody Johnson bought the New York Jets in 2000 for $635 million, he believed he was inheriting Bill Belichick as head coach. But that would never be.

Belichick had been hand-picked by Bill Parcells to succeed him. Instead, shortly before being introduced as the head coach, Belichick resigned after just one day, famously writing “I resign as HC of the NYJ” on a napkin. The sudden departure forced Johnson to begin his tenure as owner without the coach he expected to keep.

Bill Belichick landed at the New England Patriots and established one of the greatest NFL dynasties.
