Another day of training camps is officially in the books! Here are our key takeaways from the recent sessions:

  • Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey left Wednesday's practice early with a trainer for an unknown reason, one day after Nate Wiggins suffered a knee problem.

  • Broncos QBs Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger will each play a half against Atlanta on Friday while Bo Nix sits out. Stidham is expected to start.

  • Three Chiefs players left practice early Wednesday, including Nick Bolton with an illness, Jared Wiley with a strained hamstring, and Peter Woods with an ankle injury.

  • Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. made two catches in live drills and is set to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings.

  • Commanders QB Jayden Daniels is growing more comfortable in the new offense and connected with Stefon Diggs for a touchdown during joint practices with the Dolphins.

As an underclassman at Miami, Bernie Kosar wanted to play exclusively for his childhood team, the Cleveland Browns. The Minnesota Vikings desperately wanted to draft Kosar, trading up with the Houston Oilers to secure the No. 2 overall pick in the regular 1985 NFL Draft. To avoid being drafted by the Vikings, Kosar intentionally delayed submitting his paperwork for the regular 1985 NFL Draft.

Because he had accumulated enough college credits to graduate early, he became eligible for the later Supplemental Draft. Knowing this plan in advance, Browns General Manager Ernie Accorsi quietly traded for the Buffalo Bills' top supplemental pick, outmanoeuvring the rest of the league and prompting severe legal threats from other franchises.

This singular event prompted NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle to intervene. Ultimately, Rozelle allowed Kosar to choose which draft he entered. Kosar chose the supplemental draft, and the Browns selected him on July 3, 1985. To prevent teams and players from colluding to manipulate the system like this again, the NFL immediately restructured its supplemental draft rules.
