Before becoming the breakout kicker for the Dallas Cowboys, Brandon Aubrey never played organized American football at any level growing up, not in high school and not even during college. Instead, from 2013 to 2016, he was a four-year starting defender for the University of Notre Dame’s men’s soccer team. After being selected 21st overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC, Aubrey pursued professional soccer, playing during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, before stepping away from the sport entirely in 2019.

He then worked as a software engineer while holding a computer science degree from Notre Dame, only beginning to learn placekicking around 2020–2021. Within just a few years, that late transition turned into an NFL opportunity, making his rise one of the most unconventional career paths in modern football.

Is Brandon Aubrey deserving of every penny he demands considering the Cowboys' current cap situation?
