Cowboys Star Ejected for Punching Teammate

Publication by EssentiallySports | August 5, 2026 | Edition #502 |
Hey Folks,
Compete hard, but cross the line? You're done for the day.
That was the clear takeaway from Tuesday's practice after a young star was thrown out following a heated altercation with another teammate. Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer proved his zero-tolerance standard is an active policy.

It leaves one big question: how will the locker room respond?

Should the NFL fine the team owners and head coaches when players fight in camp? |

Another day of training camps is officially in the books! Here are our key takeaways from the recent sessions:
Chicago Bears Safety Coby Bryant is expected to miss 8 to 10 weeks due to a knee injury.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed that 2024 first-round pick Tyler Guyton is leading the competition for the team's starting left tackle job.
Tennessee Titans DT Jeffery Simmons was abruptly removed from practice by head coach Robert Saleh after getting heated and throwing a punch at a teammate during 11-on-11 drills.
Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr., nearing full clearance from his ACL recovery, highlighted his training camp progress by throwing a perfectly placed touchdown pass to rookie Zachariah Branch over Darnay Holmes in 1-on-1 drills.
Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has challenged rookie Sonny Styles to "unleash the beast" by playing with a more aggressive, instinctual mindset as he adapts to the team's defense during training camp.

In July 1998, during the Dallas Cowboys training camp in Wichita Falls, Texas, Michael Irvin and teammate Everett McIver got into a violent fight over a barber chair. The franchise brought a private barber to the team dorms. McIver was seated in the chair when Irvin arrived and demanded the seat, shouting, "Seniority!" Backed by teammate Erik Williams, McIver refused to vacate the chair.
Tensions exploded into a pushing-and-shoving match. The 318-pound McIver threw Irvin against a wall and punched him in the mouth. In a fit of rage, Irvin grabbed a pair of barber scissors and stabbed McIver in the neck, ripping a two-inch gash just inches away from his carotid artery. Teammate Leon Lett tried to break up the melee as blood gushed from the wound. McIver survived the attack but required 18 stitches to close the severe neck wound. This fight was infamously known as the "Scissors Fight."
