On October 2, 2005, the NFL hosted its first-ever regular-season game outside the United States at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca. The Arizona Cardinals topped the San Francisco 49ers 31–14 in front of 103,467 fans, setting a new record for the largest paid attendance at an NFL regular-season game at the time.
