With about 11 minutes left in the third quarter, Brock Purdy threw to Mike Evans in the end zone. Evans made a contested catch for a 2-yard touchdown. The score put the 49ers ahead 17–7.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground has hosted two American football games long before any NFL team arrived.

On September 1, 1908, sailors from the USS Minnesota and the USS Kentucky played there during the U.S. Great White Fleet’s visit. The match had two 15-minute halves and finished 0–0 in front of about 5,000 people.

On July 2, 1943, the U.S. Marine Corps held its 1st Division championship in the same arena. The 11th Regiment beat the 5th Regiment 6–0 on a fourth-quarter touchdown.
