Hey Folks,

What looked like a successful culmination of the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh is now being overshadowed by growing scrutiny. The Steelers are under the microscope for a questionable encounter with a blue-chip prospect. As the league looks to enforce its protocol standards, Pittsburgh is suddenly under the radar for all the wrong reasons.

A Draft Day misstep in Pittsburgh is gaining traction, drawing the franchise into increased scrutiny.

It marked the first time in draft history that a Heisman finalist went undrafted across all three days. The former Vanderbilt QB was ultimately left unselected.

Do you think Diego Pavia still has a chance to build an NFL career as an undrafted free agent?

While the Diego Pavia snub may look surprising, it isn’t the first time popular college football players have faced rejection.

In 2003, former quarterback Tony Romo didn’t even receive an initial invite to the NFL Combine. He was brought in late as a “clipboard body,” just to throw passes so scouts could evaluate other prospects.

He went undrafted and signed as a free agent, then spent almost four years holding a clipboard in Dallas before finally getting his shot and turning that opportunity into a 13-year career as the face of the Cowboys.

With four Pro Bowls and a franchise-record 248 passing touchdowns, he remains the ultimate proof that scouting is an inexact science. Romo’s rise proves that even in an era of high-tech analytics, experts can still miss a talented prospect standing right in front of them.
