One of the greatest players in NFL history nearly lost his life on the practice field before he became a legend.
In 1960, a 1,000-pound steel tower collapsed directly onto Packers icon Ray Nitschke. A massive bolt pierced his helmet, missing his skull by less than an inch.
While teammates panicked, Coach Vince Lombardi barely blinked. After confirming it was Nitschke under the wreckage, the coach simply yelled, "He'll be fine! Everyone else, back to the goalposts!"
