The Jets are Trapped!

Welcome to the third edition of the DraftCast newsletter! Tim Wood here, host of the EssentiallySports DraftCast with Tony Pauline.

With the college football National Championship behind us, it’s time to turn our attention fully to draft season. Dante Moore, who was the presumed second pick in the NFL Draft, made the shocking decision to return to Oregon for another season instead of entering the NFL Draft. Tony and I broke down the ramifications of that in our third DraftCast episode below.

The Senior Bowl and Shrine Bowl will also kick off next week. Shrine Bowl practices will run from the 23rd to the 26th, before the Shrine Bowl caps off the week on the 27th. Then, the Senior Bowl will begin practicing on Tuesday, the 27th, before the game on Saturday, the 31st. Tony will be present at both, so make sure you’re tuning into EssentiallySports for live news and updates throughout the week.

Tony’s NFL Draft Big Board will also be receiving its first update later this week, so keep your eye out for that. Tony’s board will be updated throughout the season, and you can track your favorite prospects' movement by creating your own watchlist.

Two underclassmen have made decisions that will be closely scrutinized. But the real question remains. Were they the right moves? One opted for stability, while the other took a gamble that could carry real risk. Here’s our take.

As Dante Moore and Ty Simpson make pivotal decisions about their futures, Tony Pauline breaks down the top prospects to watch for at the Shrine Bowl and Senior Bowl. Meanwhile, as coaching overhauls dominate the NFL’s top storylines, our draft expert takes a closer look at the key hires shaping the future in New York and Atlanta.

New York’s rough stretch could come with a silver lining. After an abysmal season with gaping holes in their defense, the Jets cannot pass on a top talent out of Columbus.

On our Draft big board, you’ll see Tony’s rankings and scouting reports for each prospect. And you can build a watchlist by clicking on the star at the far right of each prospect ranking.

Do you think the Jets are justified in selecting a safety with their #2 pick?

Although Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield never played football at the University of Minnesota, the Vikings still selected him in the 17th round of the 1973 NFL Draft. That same year, Winfield was also drafted by MLB’s San Diego Padres, the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, and the ABA’s Utah Stars, underscoring his rare multi-sport talent.
