X Factor Behind Seahawks' Win Unearthed

Welcome to the sixth edition of the DraftCast newsletter! Tim Wood here, host of the EssentiallySports DraftCast with Tony Pauline.
I am admittedly licking my wounds from a dreadful Super Bowl for my Patriots. Tony and I talked a bit about the Super Bowl, including Clint Kubiak confirming he was headed to Las Vegas right after getting that win.
We’re excited to share Episode 6 of the DraftCast with you here, which features:
Kubiak’s move to the Raiders, his perfect timing and brilliant leverage in negotiations
Why Fernando Mendoza is trending toward the No. 1 overall pick, and why skipping combine throwing is now standard for top QBs.
How Carson Swessinger’s Defensive Rookie of the Year season could push off-ball linebackers back into Round 1 conversations.
The latest on Trinidad Chambliss’ eligibility battle, NIL implications, and possible draft ripple effects.
We also welcome our first guest to the DraftCast. Philadelphia Inquirer draft analyst Devin Jackson joins to discuss Shrine Bowl and Senior Bowl takeaways, Eagles roster decisions, and late-round prospects who could outperform their draft slot.
The show also includes Tony’s tape room takes on who he’s highest on among guys that didn’t play in the prospect bowls.
And of course, we delve into the mailbag to answer YOUR QUESTIONS.
Also in this newsletter, Kyle Besson delves into a topic we hit on the show, breaking down which former Super Bowl champions were constructed most like the 2025-26 Seahawks.
We just released big changes to the Tony’s NFL Draft Board, and Tony breaks down all the movers and shakers and things to look for in this update.
Please keep the questions coming and we’ll answer as many as we can on-air each week.

The latest Big Board update reflects performances from the Shrine Bowl and Senior Bowl, showing how players have adjusted on scouts’ draft boards. While the top remains mostly steady, a handful of prospects made noticeable moves up or down based on what they showed in Mobile and beyond, giving a clearer picture of position depth and potential picks as draft season continues.

Given the Seahawks' dominance, should Mike McDonald aim to strengthen the offense in 2026 NFL Draft? |

The NFL Combine invitation list is extremely exclusive. Each year, only about 300 - 330 prospects are invited, even though thousands of college players declare for the draft, making it one of the biggest gateways to improving a player’s draft stock.
